Biography
6LACK has put his distinctive spin on mainstream R&B by effortlessly blending a flawless hip-hop flow with dynamic vocal chops. The Atlanta-raised artist, born Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr., rose through the local scene as a battle rapper and an eventual member of the hip-hop collective Spillage Village before gaining major attention with his single “PRBLMS,” which he initially released on SoundCloud in 2016. The song would go on to notch his first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 and ushered in his 2016 debut solo album, Free 6LACK. He reached greater success in 2018 with the release of his Hot 100-charting collaborative single “OTW” with Khalid and Ty Dolla $ign, followed by his sophomore full-length, East Atlanta Love Letter, which debuted atop the Top R&B Albums chart and at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The 6pc Hot EP arrived in 2020, and 6LACK released his third album, Since I Have a Lover, in 2023. In addition to his solo endeavors, 6LACK has shared the mic with J. Cole, Normani, Lil Baby, Jessie Reyez, and more. His appearance on Lil Tjay’s 2021 single “Calling My Phone” earned 6LACK his highest-charting Hot 100 hit yet at No. 3 and his first quadruple-platinum offering.
